When it comes to electrical work there are many things you can get an electrician to do. Some are simple basic jobs while others can be more complex and time consuming.

Do you get each job done individually? Or do you wait and get all the jobs done at once? This will vary from person and for the job. If it comes to doing a lot at once, then this post is for you.

The Pros and Cons of approaching Electrical Work in Small Jobs or One Large Job

Large Job Pros

  • You can get everything you needed done in one go.
  • The total cost may work out cheaper with less travel time involved when adding up smaller jobs to the bigger job
  • You could be inconvenienced less over all as everything gets done around the same time
  • Comprehensive approach allows you to make sure everything is working all together
  • Consistency with work as it’s one electrician or company doing everything all at once

Large Job Cons

  • You’ll need to have a larger budget on hand
  • Overall you could be inconvenienced more as the job goes on
  • Less flexibility once a large electrical job is underway
  • Could require more project management as the electrician may be waiting or have to work with other contractors

 Small Job Pros

  • You can get work done when you can afford it
  • They are great if you are renovating parts of your house in sections
  • You might decide on something different as you progress at getting work done
  • Less disruptive to your daily life as the whole house won’t be worked on all at once

 Small Job Cons

  • Can be an inconvenience scheduling multiple jobs
  • Could result in overall higher cost once everything is finished

 Complete House Re-Model

Recently we worked on a whole house re-model. This was a big job which allowed the home owner to upgrade and future proof for many years to come. All by giving some thought about what they wanted as they renovated their house.

Here’s a list of the things we did.

Full Rewire of the House

This is the biggest kind of wiring job an electrician can face. Getting a full rewire of a house gives you peace of mind knowing that every single piece of wiring in the house had been replaced.

Now worrying about old wiring or any potential problems knowing all the electrical wiring is the of the same age and quality.

New Main Fuse Board

Removing the old fuse board takes away the old style of fuse and replacing them with the more modern circuit breakers. This can also allow more power to be managed more efficiently and keeping the whole electrical system safe. The switchboard is an important part of any house or commercial electrical setup.

Heat Pump Install

Quick efficient heat where it’s needed most. A heat pump is a great option to keep you warm and cosy in the winter and cool in summer.

Making sure you have the right sized heat pump for your house is important and a good installer will recommend the best options for you.

New Lighting

New lighting in a house can really change the mood. Alongside the other renovation like new paint, lighting is another great way of making a room more cosy, more energetic or better suited to your lifestyle. With so many different options when it comes to light fixtures it pays to talk to your electrician.

Rangehood

A rangehood will help remove steam from your kitchen, helping your whole home stay healthy. There are many different options when it comes to installing a rangehood.

For this job the customer went with a rangehood that was built into the cabinetry.

Extra Plugs

With a big job like this it’s a great time to get power outlets where you need them.

Back Lit Bathroom Mirror

Ever been at a place that just doesn’t quite have the right lighting in the bathroom. It makes using the mirror a hassle. Luckily you can get back lit bathroom mirrors, something we installed into this house.

Bathroom Extraction

We installed a bathroom extraction system to make sure steam would be removed from the bathroom. All part of a healthy home.

Heated Towel Rail

Nothing like a toasty warm towel after a shower.

Gas Infinity Hot Water System

Changing over from a standard hot water cylinder to an infinity hot water system is not a small job. Working in with the plumbing contractors we were able to get the efficient and instant hot water system up and running.

No waiting for hot water for this house.

New Main Feed to the Shed

The customer wanted to make sure there was electricity to the shed. We were able to do this and make sure everything was done in a safe manner and up to standard.

Sub Board for the Shed

We also made sure there was a sub board in the shed. Providing more safety and peace of mind while giving the ability for it to grow if the future demands required it.

 Lots of Different Options

As you can see there are many different options when it comes to choosing what types of electrical work to get done. Within each type of a job like this there are different options to choose from.

It pays to talk to your local electrician about what the options are and the benefits of each one. They have the experience and knowledge to help you with whatever you plans are for your house, big or small.
